For the exhibition "democracy!" we developed the project "being there".
Usually Foundation B.a.d formulates its projects from the situation of being a R'dam-based artists' group, offering hospitality in its studio complex and creating spaces for exchange. In London, we found ourselves in a new position where we were guests, not hosts. Leaving our place and becoming guests abroad, we wanted to bring a gift.
At our first visit to London we organised to meet several groups of artists, architects and designers(Artlab, Tomato, FAT, Muf, Cubitt, Soda and Unit), to talk about their use of common space and compare the different approaches. Back in R'dam we developed a site/situation- specific gift for each group based on our impressions and the stories they told us. A month later we brought the gifts to London. The gifts were first presented to them at the opening of the exhibition "democracy!". After the exhibition we returned to London to offer the gifts to the groups by installing them in their working spaces.
